Frank Sheffield Bryson III, fondly known as Shep, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the age of 71. Born in Savannah, Georgia, Shep was the son of Frank Bryson Jr. and Audrey Gordon Nieva-Woodgate, who later divorced. He was blessed with a second mother when his father remarried Natalia Morse Bryson, He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, and a half-sister..
Shep began his hospitality career in Savannah at the Chart House, working alongside Chef Gerry Klaskala. In 1994, he moved to Atlanta, where he continued his work both in the kitchen and front of house at well-known spots including The Downwind at PDK and the award-winning There Gastropub. A talented cook and passionate blues musician, He was also known for his harmonica playing and his love of the annual Chicken Raid Blues Festival.
In his last two years, he lived in Coastal Carolina to be closer to family. Loved for his generosity, humor, and Southern warmth, Shep leaves behind a legacy of friendship, music, and countless cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held this Friday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwich Cemetery, Lot 15, in Savannah, Georgia. A celebration of life will also be held in Atlanta this coming October, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hunger & Hope or The Atlanta Music Project.
